LATE SUMMER READING LIST

August 04, 2020 by David Coggins in Etc.

How Prosperity Transformed the Falklands. The New Yorker. This wonderful story by Larissa MacFarquhar traces the curious fortunes of the British islands off the coast of Argentina. What was once a remote outpost of the British empire grew prosperous and now, in the age of global pandemic, is isolated once again. One of the best things I’ve read all year.

Crockett & Jones.jpg

Easily Suede. Crockett & Jones. I wrote a piece for my friends at Crockett & Jones about how a wise man helped me to stopped worrying and learn to love suede shoes year-round. It’s an approach I still stand by, in the strongest possible terms.

Of Interest: Bonefishing. The Journal. Huckberry. Mike Idell makes the case for going after bonefish with a fly rod. My biggest angling obsession is being on the flats chasing “the silver phantom”—it’s incredible. Let’s hope the Bahamas opens back up and we can get down there to support our friends, some of the nicest guides and lodge owners in the world.

Drake's.jpg

Drake’s. The Lookbook. The latest from my friends at Drake’s. The chevron weave suit (above) is a terrific answer if you’re looking for a versatile blue suit (more useful than you think!). And if you’re not inclined for tailoring at the moment then the Ripstop Jungle Jacket is just about perfect.

Observer Seebag.jpg

The Seebag. The Observer Collection. Just discovered this wild bag online today. It’s designed and made by Robert Spangle, whose photography you know and love as Thousand Yard Style. This looks great, well done, man!
