THE SAD AND VISCERAL SUMMER

It’s hard to come to terms with this convulsive and disconcerting time. It’s affecting every person everywhere in a moral and visceral way. This site is about the pleasures of travel and style, which are at the peripheries of life. What’s happening on the streets and in legislatures is clearly the center of life.

A global pandemic is a unique convergence of circumstances. Issues of racial and social justice are, sadly, enduring and chronic. What happened to George Floyd, in my hometown, is more than tragic, it’s violence against basic humanity.

It felt like the best thing for me was to pull back and let the voices be heard who are victims of an unjust system. I didn’t know how to contribute in a meaningful way, and, honestly, I still don’t. This site is clearly not about politics, but to not acknowledge what’s happening feels like a disconnection from what matters right now. Let’s hope the Supreme Court ruling is bending our country back to justice for every person. The path remains long and steep.
