Timo Andres is a composer and pianist. He records for the renowned Nonesuch label and is performing at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall next year. These are all good things! Maurice RAVEL (Composer): "Les valses nobles et sentimentales" - AMQS, $4500

Ravel’s “Noble and Sentimental Waltzes” are just perfect music—buoyantly, delightfully inventive little pieces but with undercurrents of dissonance and nostalgia. Here’s a bit of one in Ravel’s own hand, on his beautifully designed letterhead. I’m not in any position to buy this kind of artifact, but maybe I’ll print out the photo from eBay and tape it up next to my piano.

Gerstner Vintage Tool Chest 13 Drawer Model # 062, $400

I don’t need to store anything specific just now, but I feel strongly that one should always have extra storage space on hand should the need suddenly arise. This chest is extremely beautiful on its own and has lots of clever little drawers and compartments.

These frames would certainly make me look either more Jewish or more WASPy, which I think we can safely say is a “win-win situation.”

Vintage Pyrex Bright Yellow Mixing Bowl Set RARE, $450

Colorful old Pyrex is wonderfully cheering, and I buy these bowls whenever I come across them in thrift stores. Also you can put them in the oven (though not, I’ve discovered, in the dishwasher). The BIN price on this set is absolutely preposterous, but then, I’ve never seen them in my favorite yellow before…

Vintage 80s UTZ Potato Chip Snacks Pennsylvania Adjustable Snapback Hat Cap, $22.50

The Utz girl is obviously iconic—I love her perfectly round head and lack of nose. The idea here is to wear this hat on the beach while absolutely housing a bag a Utz’s crab chips, the world’s most delicious junk food.
